Abstract The gig-platform economy lies at the center of a recounting paradigm swing. As per WESO report (2021) of ILO, digital platforms have significantly increased by many folds in the past decade. These digital platforms bring innovative solutions to various sectors like transportation, retail, personal care, and home care. They offer workers with diverse skill sets promising income opportunities while providing businesses with broader market access. Even amidst the pandemic, the gig economy has shown resilience to platform workers in the Indian market. This study aims to achieve several key objectives. Firstly, it seeks to estimate the workforce size engaged in the gig and platform economy. Further, to determine the role of gig and platform economy in Indian scenario. For the purpose of data collection, various government sites were considered for relevant dataset. The findings of the study stated that the gig economy in India has demonstrated resilience, driven by innovation and the ability to provide opportunities for diverse segments of the population, including women. As the gig economy continues to evolve, it will be essential to ensure that adequate safeguards and support systems are in place to protect the rights and well-being of gig workers and to foster inclusive growth within this sector.
