Abstract

Twenty years after the formation of the state, the people of the hilly region of Uttarakhand continue to face challenges that they experienced when they were part of the largest state of India before 2000. Prior to the formation of the state, people from the hilly regions migrated to metro cities in search of employment. Now, after the formation of the state, this phenomenon continues and the rate of outmigration from the hilly region of Uttarakhand has accelerated. This paper aims to examine the population trends in Uttarakhand over the past decades and focuses on the underlying causes. Additionally, it highlights the potential solutions and expected remedies to overcome these challenges.
