Abstract This study aimed to examine the role of parents ’and children's sociodemographic factors in coping of the parents of children with neurodevelopmental disability. Fifty five such parents (N=55) participated in this study and were divided into two groups: parents of children with intellectual disability (N=32) and parents of children with cerebral palsy (N=23). Their age ranged between 26–55 years. The participants were taken from different rehabilitation centers and special school at Varanasi. Coping Checklist (modified Hindi version) and demographic schedule were administered on them. Correlation analysis was applied to see the relationship which revealed that the parent's demographic such as their age, education, income, marital status, family structure and child's demographic such as nature of disability and birth order of disabled child are significantly associated with parents ’coping style. Results of stepwise regression analysis revealed that that birth-order, number of children and age of disabled child are major factors contributing to coping styles. The problem focused coping style was influenced by nature of disability whereas avoidance was influenced by number of disabled children. Besides discussing the results, implications of findings are also underlined. The limitations of the study and suggestions for future research are also indicated.
