Online published on 21 August, 2018. Abstract The medicinal value of Bauhinia purpurea is well known in traditional medicine. This study was aimed to analyse the phytochemicals present in the extract prepared using stem, fruit and leaves. Qualitative analysis of phytochemicals showed positive result for alkaloids, saponin, phenol, flavonoids, anthocyanin, terpenoids, and steroids. The fluorescence analysis was also carried out for the extract using different solvents. Similarly, the extract was checked for its anti-bacterial and antioxidant activity. The extract showed notable biological activities which well correlates with the presence of different phytochemicals. Also, an attempt has been made to isolate endophytic bacteria from Bauhinia purpurea. Three endophytic bacterial isolates named as Bb1, Bb2 and Bb3 were isolated after surface sterilization. These bacteria were found to have appreciable antioxidant and antibacterial activity. These isolates were characterised based on biochemical parameters and 16srRNA sequencing. One isolate was identified to belong to Bacillus sp based on BLAST analysis. These isolates were found to possess substantial antioxidant and antibacterial activities.
