Methods The antiproliferative effect of the 10, 50, 100, 300 and 600 μg/mL and 100 & 200 mg/ml ethanolic extract were evaluated in vitro using trypan blue dye exclusion and agar diffusion assay using Balb/c 3T3 mouse fibroblasts and human peripheral lymphocytes. Results K. pinnata leaves extract did not show cytotoxic at 10, 50 & 100 μg/mL and 300 & 600 μg/mL 50% cells are viable (grade 0). In 100 & 200 mg/ml the zone extending up to 1 cm (grade 1) was observed. In positive control zone extending farther than 1cm beyond specimen (grade 4) was recorded. No zone formation was observed in negative control (grade 0). Conclusion It was concluded that extract did not any cytotoxic at low level concentrations, but its phytochemicals may be producing cytotoxic. Hence findings of our study do not support the routine consumption of the plant extract at high concentration. Therefore, further studies are to be conducted on routine consumption at higher concentrations.
