Abstract

Aim

The aim of the study is to demonstrate the association of the facultative anaerobes in endodontic infection.

Objective

Endodontic infection is always a condition having multiple etiology. The treatment involves access opening, obturation, placing intra canal medicament and administration of systemic antibiotics. The antibiotic administered may be a mixture of anti anaerobic drug. The bacteria present in the endodontic infections are porphyromonas gingivalis, enterococcus, streptococcus, fusobacterium nucleatum, actinomycetes, lactobacillus, etc (1).this study is conducted to investigate the presenceof facultative bacteria in the primary endodontic infection.sample from 20 patients taken by the paper points in the root canal of the primary infection of the tooth.

Background

The most common bacteria seen in the primary infection are the gram positive facultative anaerobes and the next will be anaerobes. Identification of microorganism participating in the pathogenesis of infection is important in order to understand the disease process and to provide effective anti microbial treatment. The root canal microorganism are derived from the oral cavity(2). Changes in the oral environment such as, the type and availability of nutrients, oxygen tension and bacterialinteraction, influences the inhabitants of the root canal flora (3). The reason for the study is that scientific evidence indicates that unsatisfactory outcome of cases in which treatment has followed the highest technical standard mainly is associated with microbial factor comprising extra radicular and intraradicular infections.
