Abstract

Digital technology has evolved over time and it hugely assists in navigation, communication, and cargo management within the maritime industry. Nevertheless, this increasing reliance on Informational technology (’IT’) and Operational Technology (’OT’) has also led to a rise in cyber security threats. The concept of Maritime cybersecurity is among vital issues which threaten marine supply chain safety, security, and overall effectiveness. The major maritime cyber security issues, vulnerabilities and challenges including the effects of cyberattacks on the maritime sector are discussed in this article. It also addresses the modernisation journey with specific reference to navigation systems, maritime cybersecurity laws, guidelines, and measures corporates and other maritime entities can put in place and the bonus is a cyber-incident response plan to prevent cybersecurity issues in their operations.
