Abstract Banks play an important role in the agricultural development of a country. They accumulate the idle savings of the people and make them available for investment. A well organised banking system is the need of the day. Commercial banks play an important and active role in the economic development of a country. If the banking system in a country is effective, efficient and disciplined, it brings about a rapid growth in the various sectors of the economy. As we know that agriculture is the backbone of the economy of any country like India, this research is based upon the primary as well as secondary data which provide the findings on commercial banks and how it helps in agricultural development. The present paper is an attempt to explore the agricultural credit market in Odisha, which is a powerful tool for enhancing production and productivity and ensuring sustainable livelihood for the countrymen. Hence, this research will help in finding out that how commercial banks are being helpful in development of agriculture in Odisha.
