Abstract This paper aims to highlight the difference and similarities between the slums of two cities i.e. Allahabad and Varanasi. Slums of Allahabad and Varanasi resembles certain common traits like, zonal location of slum, demographic characteristics, occupational structure of slum, area occupied by slum, tenure, dwelling density, availability of basic facilities etc. and also differs on some aspects like morphology of slums, notification status, ownership of land, area surrounding slum etc. This study reveals existing gap in policy making and identifying the specific needs of slums inboth cities.
