Effectiveness of progressive muscle relaxation with deep breathing exercise on sleep among the elderly

Abstract

Sleep problems are common among the older adults that nearly half of hypnotic prescriptions are prescribed for people aged above 65yrs. Elderly people with disturbances in sleep pattern should be discouraged from using hypnotics. Various studies have showed that the relaxation techniques were effective in promoting sleep. This study reveals that progressive muscle relaxation with deep breathing exercise were effective in promoting sleep among the older adults.
