Paracetamol overdose and fasting Ilaimathi S. Lecturer, Dr. G. Sakunthala college of Nursing, Trichy Online published on 23 May, 2017. Abstract Paracetamol poisoning ranks at the top of all known poisoning agents implicated in accidental or intentional poisoning. Patient admitted with the complaints of abdominal pain, starving for 36 hrs and took paracetamol tablet. Patient developed with icterus, right upper quadrant tenderness and no rashes and pallor. The case report suggested that fasting may be an important predisposing factor for acetaminophen hepato toxicity in patients taking 4 to 10 gms of acetaminophen within 24 hours. Fasting may lead to a constellation of metabolic effects that together increase an individual susceptibility to acetaminophen heptatotoxicity. Top Keywords Paracetamol, poisoning, hepatotoxicity.
