Abstract Social exclusion is a multidimensional process through which some groups or individuals are systematically disadvantaged in the societal process because they are discriminated on the basis of race, ethnicity, religion, caste, or gender etc. These groups get alienated from the social bonding and institutions which prevents them from full participation in the activities of the society in which they live. Social exclusion in terms of gender is very much intermingled. Social exclusion of women is rarely discussed as there is a kind of naturalizing tendency of alienation of women in their day to day life under the clutches of patriarchy. In this regard, the media is expected to represent women‟s voices and also impart in women new values and progressive action and the information of those issues affecting them as well as to give a complete view of their life situation. Media mediates and shapes people‟s reality. It is supposed to reflect the economic, political, social and cultural situation of local, national or global issues. The media cannot proceed without values prevalent in society. Indian media being a part of this culture operates within this system where the norms of Indian culture formed the legitimized societal ideological set up, acts as an important filter through which news is constructed, determining what can and cannot be represented. The media set-up varies from society to society, depending upon the cultural setup of the society. Within this spectrum, an endeavor is made in this research article to make an analysis of the media set-up in Assam regarding its projection on women‟s issues in Assam.
