Abstract

The social work profession has been thriving for the well-being of all people leaving no one behind. But the world economic policies of free trade and open boundaries are posing more challenges making it more difficult to thrive in societies where both opportunities and exploitation are there on both ends. Systemic education and sensitization with measurable changes in communities are the need of the hour. Social work education institutes prepare their learners to become competent with knowledge, skills, attitude, and right behavior. Systematic experiential learning is given through fieldwork practicums designed to give specialized training. The present paper discusses the proposed participatory structured social work curriculum for village-based, open community social work practice based on social realities like the lack of participation of civil society organizations and professional NGOs. The curriculum is structured to facilitate learning through action/ intervention-based courses that are more relevant and linked to catering to address the challenges of quality of life of rural-based communities. However, its implementation requires more pre-planning and open discussion and internalization by the social work faculty. The curriculum, if implemented in letter and spirit can thrive to address the most deep-rooted patriarchal issues of oppression and exploitation of particular groups and rural communities.
