Abstract The role of social work in disaster management is multifaceted and significant, as social workers bring their skills in assisting individuals, communities, and systems to navigate complex issues, providing much-needed support in the wake of disaster scenarios. This support is particularly essential for vulnerable groups disproportionately impacted by disasters, such as people living in poverty, the elderly, individuals with disabilities, and marginalized communities. Social workers can contribute to all phases of disaster management: mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery. During mitigation and preparedness phases, social workers often engage in community education and advocacy, highlighting the needs of vulnerable populations, and helping to ensure disaster plans are inclusive and address these needs. They can also work with individuals and families to create personalized disaster preparedness plans, addressing specific vulnerabilities, and ensuring resources are accessible when needed (Alston and Kent, 2008).
