Abstract Micro finance through Self-Help Groups (SHGs) has proved to be a strategic measure for organizing people in groups and promoting savings and thrift habits to gain access to institutional credit for their socio-economic development. It empowers poor people since it instils a perception of strength, self reliance and confidence when the poverty trap is broken. A self-help group (SHG) is a village-based (or slum-based) financial intermediary usually composed of between 10–20 local people. To alleviate the poverty, the micro-finance has emerged as a powerful instrument in the new economy. With availability of micro-finance, self-help groups (SHGs) and credit management groups have also started in India. Present paper focuses that SHG play a vital role in economic development of women in India. Top Keywords SHG, women, economic development, management, poverty. Top |
