Abstract Health and Hygiene are important objectives of one the central government's dream‘Swachh Bharat Mission’. The sole purpose of the present study is to report and describe the health and hygiene practices found among Kharwar tribals of Deoria, U.P. using primary as well as secondary data sources including interview schedule, personnel observation, government official records and available literature. The study is concerned with the physical as well as some of the social environmental factors which affect their lives. It was found that Kharwar people were not much urbanized but they have changed their life pattern in urban influence and the prevalent diseases occurs due to both natural and man-made circumstances. Both traditional and modern system of medicine were equally established among the Kharwar people but they gave first preference to earlier one and second preference to later.
