Abstract

India fought for its freedom from the clutches of British colonial rule for a long period. The people who struggled for this aim were full of determination and followed some ideology. There were two means to achieve the objective of freedom. One was based on violence and another was on non-violence. People adopted one of these means. Many of them initially had different ideology than the ideology they later adopted. Bijay Singh Pathik was one such instance. He was a part of the revolutionary party and was one such case of a believer of violence turned to the path of non-violence to gain independence for India. Another interesting part in his case was that he was an inhabitant of the British Indian part of India but once he knew the hapless condition of the people of Mewar, the native Indian Princely state, which was under the indirect control of british power and directly ruled by the native Prince, he stood for them. Bijay Singh Pathik played a prominent role in the awakening of the people of Mewar for their political rights and demand for a responsible government. In the present research paper the journey of Bijay Singh Pathik will be discussed as how he worked as a revolutionary, the events leading him to the change of his ideology, to becoming the leader of the masses who motivated them for the peaceful agitation against the tyranny of the Rajputana states and British Colonial power.
