Abstract Dindori is a tribal district of central India and full of rich flora, fauna and diverse indigenous ethnic groups. The tribal people of Dindori have been using various traditional methods to cure various diseases. Plants are traditionally used as medicines by traditional healers and village elders to cure human and veterinary diseases. These preserved ethnomedicinal practices are found suitable and helpful in treatment of the local people on low cost basis. To collect first hand data of local medicinal plants and their uses, fifty two traditional medical practitioners were interviewed by using interview schedule as well as intensive anthropological field work has been conducted by using various anthropological tools and techniques, ethno botanical survey has been conducted to collect information regarding various medicinal plants and their uses. These medicinal plants are used to cure various types of diseases. The common diseases of the area is malaria, cough, cold, stomach related, skin diseases, wound and jaundice. People.s dependency on Ethnomedicine is still very high in study area. Most of the plants used for medicinal purposes are wild and expert traditional healers collect them.
