Abstract The present paper extensively deals with environmental sanitation, sanitary habits and domestic hygiene of the Jaunsarese/Khas/Khos/Khasas of the Jaunsar-Bawar region of Dehradoon district of Utarakhand. The study applies qualitative methods of research and religiously resorts to anthropological fieldwork in fourteen villages inhabited by the Khas tribe to examine the state of affairs in the study area. The study reveals that the status of sanitation, hygiene and hygienic practices is not very satisfactory and it is required to make studied population more aware on various aspects of health and hygiene. Study also recommends convergence of various plans and programs to overhaul existing amenities in the area in order to improve the status of environmental health and sanitary habits.
