War on Iraq: Business by other means

Bhagwat Niloufer

Abstract

The ongoing war in Iraq is a defining example of a military campaign waged on behalf of major private business interests. It was launched on and is still being justified by false pretences and trumped-up charges. All the techniques of covert warfare perfected in Indochina, Latin America and Africa by the US forces (use of banned weapons, illegal arrests, secret detentions, torture, terrorist ‘black ops’ and other war crimes) are being applied in Iraq, in utter and open contempt of international law. This indictment writen for the World Tribunal on Iraq (Istanbul, Turky) argues that a Nuremberg-style trial for the leaders of the aggressor-states is in order.
