The israeli-palestinian conflict the source of the problem is the source of the solution Brown Benjamin Abstract This article examines the seemingly intractable conflict between the Israelis and Palestinians from a historical perspective, minus the questionable decisions made by the British and French occupying powers in the twentieth century. It points out that Jews have had an uninterrupted presence in the region since antiquity, albeit in a minority and hence have legitimate claim to some of the land. Therefore, reciprocal recognition of the rights of the various religious and ethnic communities is a precondition to the creation of two states whose respective territories will be determined by their demographic majorities at a local level, perhaps on the basis of local plebiscites.
