Abstract

Special Energy meters are located at far-flung locations and need to be accessed every week for commercial settlement. SEM data collection through DCD/Laptop has been replaced by Automated Meter-data Reading (AMR) Scheme using GPRS in Eastern Region. To eliminate the manual intervention & the frequent complications faced by ERLDC such as non-receipt/delayed receipt of SEM data, inadequate spare DCD, mal-functioning of DCD etc, AMR System is implemented at more than hundred geographical locations covering all constituents/stakeholders of Eastern Region. The experience and benefits in the implementation of AMR system are elaborated in this paper through the operational experience of Power System Operation Corporation Limited (POSOCO) on the subject matter.
