Soil Resistivity, Earthing and Footing Resistance of Overhead Transmission Line Towers Biswas Hillol, Kumar M. Manoj, Arora Rohit, Raju D. Prudhvi Wapcos Limited, New Delhi Online published on 24 April, 2019. Abstract The paper describes the aspects of soil resistivity, footing resistance and earthing requirements of transmission towers to cater the need of fault preparedness in the event of short-circuit and lighting phenomenon. The soil resistivity being a variable parameter, if carried out with respect to transmission lines especially in new terrain and different region to determine the all-weather earthing requirement, though normally it is performed for substations, however, for transmission lines especially passing through unknown greenfield or brownfield terrain should also be a criteria that would provide better insight for providing earthing to the towers and make these safe during operational period of the transmission lines.
