Abstract

The Maharashtra State Electricity Regulatory Commission has notified the MERC (Net Metering for Roof-top Solar Photo Voltaic Systems) Regulations, 2015 on 10th September, 2015 for installation of Solar PV systems on Rooftop or any mounting structure by the existing/new consumers in their premises for captive use. These Regulations govern the general conditions, technical arrangements, commercial arrangements and other terms and conditions for net metering of the RTS PV Systems. This paper explains the process of net metering connectivity in Tata Power, Mumbai. It describes various steps involved right from net metering application to finally grid connectivity through net meter installation. It also brings out the challenges and difficulties faced in the net metering connectivity process. It is highlighted that regulatory framework needs to evolve continuously based on experiences, for effective monitoring of grid connectivity and enhanced satisfaction of all the stakeholders.
