Rainfall Runoff Modelling for Eastern Canal Basin Ara Zeenat, Zakwan Mohammad Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Hyderabad Online published on 22 April, 2019. Abstract In recent years Remote sensing (RS) and Global Information System (GIS) has been widely used in Water Resource Engineering. Measurement of runoff from a river basin is very difficult task, in this regard RS and GIS has been utilized to estimate the runoff generated from Eastern Sone canal Basin, India. Land Use/Land Cover (LULC) and Hydrologic Soil Group (HSG) map were developed and utilized to estimate the runoff based on Soil Conservation Services and Curve Number (SCS–CN) method. Various land features were identified through False Colour Composite (FCC) maps. LULC map was developed using Maximum Likelihood Technique. Antecedent Moisture Condition (AMC) was calculated based on HSG map and rainfall data for Eastern Sone canal basin. Coupling the Land use map and HSG map Runoff was estimated using SCS–CN method. Rainfall runoff curves were developed for the monsoon months using the rainfall data and calculated runoff. The Land use map of the study area depicted seven classes. The overall accuracy obtained in Land use classification was around 80% with overall kappa statistics as 0.75. It was observed that runoff was negligible in most of the month except monsoon month and the highest runoff was observed during the month of July. Rainfall runoff relationship varied across the monsoon season therefore, developing monthly rainfall runoff curve could be better option for the study area.
