Abstract

Renewable resources, such as biomass, have been under constant examination so that green house gases can be reduced to some extent. Therefore use of renewable resources will account for lesser contribution to climate change. Biomethanation is one such technology where anaerobic digestion of waste leading to generation of biogas which makes sustainable source of renewable energy (Kameswari K S B, 2007). The objective of present study is focused on assessment of Anaerobic degradation process of cow dung & Napier grass to generate biogas in a pilot scale continuous feed reactor. A floating dome reactor of 1.44 m dia. was used to check the bio energy production by adoption of three ratios of Napier grass (NG) & Cow Dung (CD). The focus of the research is to gradually maximize the contribution of Napier grass in the biogas production; therefore we started blending of Napier grass with cow dung from 50% and ended with 75%. Meanwhile several parameters like pH, Atmospheric Temperature & solid contents monitored regularly, moreover few parameters like VFA, Alkalinity, range of TSS & TDS, HRT & OLR are also analyze during study period. Outcomes of study shows that biogas production of first two ratios i.e. NG:CD (50:50) & NG:CD (65:35) was surely lived up the expectation and the set objective as it managed to touch the average mark of the gas production i.e. up to 0.48 m3 kg VS-1 as well as for ratio NG:CD (75:25) decline was observed in the gas production up to 0.16 m3 kg VS−1. Grass based bio-methanation put their importance towards achievement of 3E's i.e. Environment, Energy & Economy.
