Assessment of treasury bill market in Ethiopia

Abstract

This paper was aimed to cast light on the status of Treasury bill markets in Ethiopia. Treasury bill market was re-introduced in Ethiopia in 1994/95 with the objective of instrument for Fiscal and Monetary policy. Seventeen years auction result was used to assess the performance of this Treasury bill market. The result of the study showed that, the Treasury bill market was dominated by banks and was simply severing the government as cheap deficit financing mechanism and was not serving as instrument for monitory policy.
