Abstract Values are to be fostered through education. Education with socialistic and humanistic values in the existing society is inseparable from value oriented education. There has been much research work done in the field of values but limited empirical studies are found on the attitude of high school students towards value oriented education. Hence, the present study on the attitude of high school students towards value oriented education was taken up. The investigator selected a sample of 320 high school students studying VIII and IX class by multistage stratified random sampling procedure. The variables like class, sex, locality, management and religion and their relationship with attitude was studied. To measure the attitude of students investigator used standardized five point Likert Scale (1932). The chief findings of the study were-The mean attitude scores of VIII class and IX class high school students showed significant difference between the groups. They had positive attitude towards value oriented education. The mean attitude scores of boys and girls’ had much difference with the attitude towards value oriented education. However, there was no significant effect of locality, management and religion on attitude towards value oriented education.
