Abstract Metacognition refers to a level of thinking that involves active control over the process of thinking that is used in learning situation. Thus, it is the ability to retrieve knowledge from memory. The present study was undertaken to compare the level of metacognition of rural and urban adolescents i.e. 10+2 class students. It was found that the level of metacognition of urban students was more than the rural students which may be due to more complex life situations faced by them in cities as compared to rural ones. Moreover, due to the limited opportunities in rural areas, the cognitive structure of adolescents may not develop fully. Top Keywords Metacognition, Knowledge, memory, adolescents, rural, urban.
