Abstract

The Indian agriculture is endowed with a lot of uncertainties. These result in low agricultural output. One of the important ways of increasing the agricultural output is the diversification of crops. The paper attempts to analyse the inter block crop diversification status of the Maldah district, one of the potential agricultural entities of West Bengal. The paper deals with the inter block crop concentration analysis of the district. The paper also reveals the inter block disparities with respect to crop diversification. From the crop concentration analysis it can be found that the major portion of the district is experiencing a shift from rice monoculture to the cultivation of high value crops like jute, wheat etc. The paper is expected to serve as an important tool for agricultural and economic planners related to the field.
