Female participation in contract farming Ms. Randhawa Preetinder Kaur M.Phil, B.Ed, Pursuing PhD in Geography, Research Scholar, Geography Department, Panjab University, Chandigarh Online published on 2 July, 2015. Abstract Contract farming is intermediate arrangement between the firm and the farmer. In contract farming generally contract system allows the firms to participate in production of various crops. The present paper is intended to conduct a case study of PAGRO Plant located in village Sadhugarh district Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab. Present paper provides a detailed look on factors promoting contract farming as well as the reasons of female participation in contract farming. Seven villages namely are selected randomly near the PAGRO Plant. The list of farmers adopted contract farming of vegetables mainly peas, carrot, chilies is obtained from the plant for selected villages. And total 20 contract farmers are selected. The data is collected through personal interview method and observational method in 2010–11. It is concluded that only large farmers are approached by the firm under contract and female workers are more employed as compare to male workers.
