Abstract Indian corporations like their foreign counterparts have been engaged in social initiative projects in order to reach out to the society. Corporate Social Responsibility has been made mandatory by the Section 135 of Indian Companies Act of 2013. The Act prescribed a total of 2% expenditure from net profits for companies with a specified financial threshold. Companies usually invest in areas such as environmental sustainability, education, poverty alleviation, women's empowerment, skill development, among others. This paper aims to analyze the CSR policies and activities of private limited companies in India with regard to women's empowerment. The paper will feature an analysis of some major companies and the initiatives undertaken by them with regard to women's empowerment.
