The fallout of the PDP-BJP Alliance Dr. Qazi Mudasir Ahmad Research Scholar, Department of Political Science, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, Up. qazimudasir111@gmail.com Online published on 2 April, 2019. Abstract Jammu and Kashmir is a sensitive state and needs careful handling on the party of mainstream political parties. The evolution of coalition politics in the state has provided an opportunity from time to time to evolve a political alliance that could address the Kashmir issue in its totality. However, the political opportunism on the party of mainstream political parties, both the regional and national parties, have complicated the matter as these political parties have divergent ideological orientations and differ on most of the sensitive issues facing the state. The balancing act between the regional parties and the nationalist parties were completely missing. In all the coalition government that has been formed in the state between the state based parties-National Conference, Peoples Democratic Party-and nationalist parties-Congress and BJP-it is the former that have suffered a lot as afar as their credibility is concerned. There is no denying of the fact that political environment of the state was quite volatile since 2008 but the wrong policies by the PDP and BJP alliance, which came into being in 2014, further complicated the situation. The utmost disdain of the sensitive issues by the PDP-BJP alliance have further complicated the problem and that in turn have delegitimised the mainstream political space which was gaining ground in the state since 2002. The present paper is an attempt to understand the impact of the PDP-BJP on the politics of Jammu and Kashmir. Top Keywords Mainstream, Parties, Coalition, Alliance, Ideology, Agenda. Top |
