Abstract

Earlier it was believed that work and non work life are two highly independent aspects but in later researches a link was established between the two concepts. Researchers now a day's strongly believe that striking a perfect fit between the job and social life is entirely significant for good health of employees as well as efficient working of organizations. Near (1980) referred the work of Weber and highlighted that non work dimensions of social life continuously influenced the work life. She also discussed the “Protestant work ethic"-the work behaviors that laid the foundation of a capitalistic economic system and its organizational divisions. Sharabi (2017) discussed about the status of women workers in today's work environment. Referring to various authors he highlighted that currently the rise in women's involvement in the workforce is one of the most sensible social and economic change globally. Years old gender bias, where males were bread earners who earned money and females were supposed to manage home, has evolved with time. Now women have entered the global workplace at a very fast pace. Work life balance efforts by organizations are always aimed at producing satisfaction among employees but does this always happens or do people take it as their obvious right while working for an organization is a controversial idea. Most of the time a perfect balance between job and family results into extrinsic as well as intrinsic satisfaction among employees but the impact on both extrinsic and intrinsic may vary depending on how people perceive WLB strategies. However intrinsic job satisfaction last longer and is highly important to achieve. Hence organizations should try to enhance intrinsic job satisfaction more rather than extrinsic satisfaction. The current study is an attempt to finding that link between work family balance and Job satisfaction among female professionals working in higher education sector of northern India.
