Abstract The Muthuvans are an indigenous tribal group living in the thick deciduous forest along the Western Ghats region of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. (Shridaran& Kalpana, 2017). In the state of Kerala and Tamil Nadu, its share of the tribal population in the overall state population is 1.14% and 1% respectively. ((Bijumon Varghese & Jose Mathew, 2015). They have developed a unique system of governance, customs, and beliefs that are quite different from the boundaries of their kudi. The government has identified 99.7% of Muthuvans in a broad category of Hindu while there are few Christian converts too. However, they tell of a form of Hindu practice that stands away from mainstream Hinduism. This paper gives an idea of how unique their practices are and how have they transformed in the present time. It aims at providing a view of a complex social system of the Muthuvans. This paper is a product of ethnographic fieldwork. Top Keywords Muthuvan, Ethnicgroup, Tribe, Practices, Belief. Top |
