Insurgency in garo Hills: Problems and solutions Marak Sengat Agitchak Research Scholar, Department of Political Science, NEHU, Meghalaya, Shillong, India. Email: agitchaksengat@yahoo.com Online published on 10 September, 2019. Abstract North-East India comprises of eight states which, is also known as the Seven Sisters and the state of Sikkim has been included in the Northeastern region, under the North Eastern Council (NEC) which is entitled as the brother of these Seven Sisters. These states have been paralyzed in terms of under-development and the growing insurgency in recent years. The insurgent problem has been engulfing the region because of which many states have been declared a disturbed area by the Ministry of Home Affairs. The state of Meghalaya is affected by the insurgent activities as normal life is paralyzed which leaves the region under-developed and this has created a fear psychosis in the state. The insurgent activities have hampered the growth and development of the state and because of this reason no progress or development can be seen if compared with the other states of India.
