Digital payment system: A technology enabled banking self-services in India

Abstract

Operations of commercial banks had shifted from its traditional method to new and innovative form by the introduction of technology in the service delivery. Digital payments are the innovative payment method in the financial service sector. With the introduction of information and communication technology and the increased spread of internet all over the world has resulted in the commendable changes in the payment and settlmenent system. From the piles of paper in shelves, banking transactions are became ease and comfort our fingertips. This paper tries to look at the major changes in the payment and settlement system in Indian banking sector, since it has resulted in the vast changes after the introduction of digital and internet technology. This paper explains different types of digital payment methods, current challenges and growth prospects of the digital payment system in Indian context.
