Council was established for the benefit of communication practitioners and academics concerned with development issues at the national level. It aims to provide them a forum for continuous dialogue. The main objective is to examine role of communication in development process. Some of its objectives include planning, conducting, coordinating and assisting in all activities related to investigation, analysis and interpretation of communication related aspects of national development; encouraging adoption of appropriate modern techniques for increasing rural prosperity; gathering, storing and disseminating traditional and technology in the areas of agricultural, environment, health, etc.; and executing programmes related to sustainable development of society through peoples participation.
