Online published on 6 April, 2019. Abstract Local anesthetic agents are used in dentistry for various painless procedures including surgeries for bone and soft tissue. Despite the advent of modern injection techniques, palatal injection continues to be a painful experience for maxillary anesthesia. Among local anesthetics, articaine has been recommended for providing an improved anesthetic effect on palatal surface with single buccal infiltration in the patients presenting for dental treatments in maxillary arch. The aim of this clinical study is to compare the effectiveness of 4% articaine with 1: 200000 adrenaline single buccal infiltration versus2% lidocaine with 1: 200000 adrenalineconventional buccal and palatal infiltration in maxillary arch for securing arch bars and extractions for orthodontic treatment. The result of this comparative clinical study based on visual analogue scale and comfort score of patients concluded thatarticaine local anesthetic administration via buccal infiltration only obviates the need for the painful palatal block with conventional local anesthetic lidocaine in maxillary arch.
