Kufri Sindhuri: A New Red Potato Variety Pushkarnath, Sikka L. C. Central Potato Research Institute, Simla Summary A seedling, C. 140, now named Kufri Sindhuri, originally developed at Kufri in 1959 and later selected at Jullundur Station of the Institute was found to possess the desired commercial attributes of Darjeeling Red Round besides being biologically stable and resistant to degenerative effects in the field. Unlike Darjeeling Red Round, the new variety yields tubers of good grade and attractive shade and uniform red colour. The variety has proved its merit both as better yielder and by better adaptability under the National Acceptability Trials over 38 centres of trial in the country. The variety was released for culture in 1966. Top |
