Abstract

A total of 30 Wistar rats aged 74 week of age were presented to the Department of Veterinary Pathology, College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry, Anjora, CGKV, Durg, Chhattisgarh, within a period of one month. On external examination 24 (80%) out of 30 rats were found affected with the dental malocclusion. Pneumonia was found in 12 (50%) out of 24 affected rats as a major complication of dental malocclusion whereas 03 (12.5%) out of 24 affected rats were found infected with tapeworms. 09 (37.5%) out of 24 rats were found with only dental malocclusion without any other complication. Ulcers and wounds were recorded in the buccal cavity especially in hard palate of ratsdue to overgrown teeth. Pneumonic lungs showed consolidation, oedema and emphysema. In rats with parasitic infestation, intestine was grossly found clogged with tapeworms. Microscopic examination of lungs revealed congestion, interstitial pneumonia and emphysema where as infiltration of mononuclear cells in the intestinal mucosa and haemorrhagic enteritis was also observed.
