Geo-Strategic environment of the Indian ocean: Contemporary trends

Abstract

In the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) tends to include these all entire characteristic that makes it's a globally influencing region of the world. The trade routes of the Indian Ocean continue to be some of the most important in the world, though the goods carried on it have changed. The Strait of Hormuz is very most important chokepoints in this region. Hormuz is the strategic links that connect with the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman. At it‘s constrict point the strait is only 29 km wide between on one side Djibouti and Yemen and Eritrea on the other. If closed of this canal means the traffic will have to take the much longer route of cap of Good Hope, which will enhance the transit time and transportation cost. The Malacca Strait is a very important choke point through which the oil bound for the West Coast of China, USA, Japan, Australia and Other South East Asia countries. The continues economic growth of this region has prompted countries form economics groups and sub-groups an attempt to very faster growing economies well being of the IOR states. He says that in 21st century strategic dynamics will be revealing as the interest influence of this region three main key Players are India, USA and China are beginning to overlap interest. So these all regional and extra-regional powers has been build up naval bases last twenty years, Including construction of deep water ports and all around the littoral states and near to the choke points. Hence, the region is synonymous to a volatile hotspot waiting to erupt and cause drastic changes.
