Abstract

The use of term social welfare in India raises images of charity-homes meant for care of children, old and destitute women. In Indian context, the social welfare term has been used in a restrictive sense having provision of social welfare services for the Indian population. The Women and Child Development Department, Haryana is committed for the empowerment of women so that they may live with dignity in an environment free from violence and discrimination and can contribute equally in the development process of the society to promote social and economic empowerment of women through policies and programmes, mainstreaming of gender concern and creating awareness about their rights in order to enable them to realise their full potential. The girl child belonging to the families of poor and scheduled castes will be provided financial assistance from the fund. Haryana C.M Shri Manohar Lal Khattar said that earlier financial assistance was provided on the birth of second daughter under LADLI scheme. In order to curb the problem of declining sex ratio a scheme named “Aapki Beti Hamari Beti schemes” has been introduced by the present govt. in haryana state. The existing ladli scheme has been subsumed into this scheme. Hence, the scheme of sports meet for rural women was started during the year 2005–06. Sports meet scheme has been modified by dividing by dividing all events into two age groups.
