Abstract

Every employee enters in an organization with some expectations and dreams in his eyes for the organization; employee has a lot of expectation regarding his workplace, management and colleagues. Sometime their expectations are fully met by the organization and sometimes up to an extent they are fulfilled but generally it has been observed there are discrepancies between an employee's expectations established prior to joining an organization and the employee's perceptions after becoming a member of the organization.

This gap between the expectation and experience at workplace affects a lot on the performance and job satisfaction of the employee. If their expectations are fully met then it motivates the employee and increases his productivity. Job satisfaction refers to the extent to which employees gain enjoyment from their efforts at the workplace. The main research question cover is “To what extent is job satisfaction influenced?” At the same time, the empirical research also aims to contribute to a better understanding of Faculties’ expectations and experiences at workplace. The purpose of this paper is to examine expectations and experiences of faculty working in management and engineering institutes. Data were collected regarding the faculties attached with engineering and management institutes through structured interviews. Findings of this exploratory qualitative study indicate that expectations are created for both Engineering and Management faculty during at workplace as well as through information obtained from other sources. The implications of these findings for practice are highlighted and the paper concludes with suggestions for further research.
