Abstract Nowadays, having considered the ever-increasing use of internet network, using electronic discussion groups is considered as a media for sharing knowledge. The statistical population in this research is librarians who are members of LIS and PUBLIB (electronics discussion groups). This research aims at comparative investigation of sharing knowledge paradigms of LIS electronics discussion group with PUBLIB electronics discussion group, exploring stimulus and barriers of using electronics discussion groups among the society of research. Descriptive survey and content analysis are used in this research. The resulted data from questionnaire distribution and categorization of resulted data were obtained from analysis of 5789 messages contents within six months, two electronics discussion groups of LIS and PUBLIB were coded and were analyzed by SPSS software and descriptive statistical indexes and inferential statistical tests. The data showed that most of the LIS electronics discussion group members are 20–30 year old women holding master's degree and most of the PUBLIB electronics discussion group members are above 50-year old women holding master's degree. The rate of join in electronic groups was observation which sends electronic messages between members of PUBLIB group are more than LIS group. Having evaluated the data, it becomes clear that there is significant difference between barriers of using electronics discussion groups in the two groups of LIS & PUBLIB. Overcrowding, congestion messages and lack of time are the greatest barriers to the use of electronic discussion groups in both electronic discussion groups.
