Abstract

The interaction between soul and body is one of the most challenging issues in philosophy of mind. There are various theories in response to the relationship between soul and body. From dualism to monotheism views, the monotheists who accepted soul as the main part of human existence and those who accepted the physical part of human beings. The present study at first reviewed the answer to this question in the thoughts of Greek philosophers such as Plato, Aristotle, Plotinus and Muslim philosophers including IbnSina and Sohrevardi, then by investigating the various dimensions of the interaction between soul and body from the view of Molasadra and based on his philosophical basics namely substantial motion and his fundamental view in soul that is "Corporeally created and Spiritual survival", it is found that soul in terms of distinguishing the contingency and gradual perfection and perception needs the body and this is the essential relation of the soul and the structure of its existence. On the other hand, body is the material cause for soul and soul is the formal cause of it and there is a unifying relationship between soul and body.
