Abstract

Trichoderma viride, T. harzianum and two isolates ofFusarium solani isolated from rhizosphere ofchilli significantly inhibited the mycelial growth and sclerotial production of Rhizoctonia solani causing stem rot of chilli. Maximum inhibition of mycelial growth (68.6 and 61.0 mm) and sclerotial production (nil) were recorded with local isolates of T. viride and T. harzianum, respectively. Coiling ofantagonists hyphae around the pathogen hyphae and finally lysis were observed. Sclerotia were colonized and its mycelium was predominant around it. Out of 23 plant extracts and five oil cakes plant extract of Plantago ovata, Allium sativum, Trigonella foenum-graecum and oil cakes of Brassica juncea inhibited maximum mycelial growth in in vitro condition.
