Abstract

Thrips orientalis is a flower dwelling oligophagous species, found associated with blossoms of Jasminum multiflorum. The brown coloured individuals measuring an average body length of 700 μ were observed @ 2– 4 individuals/flower. The density of thrips was appreciably good in March, April, September and October under the climatic conditions of Imphal. Data on thrips population during 2016– 2018 showed positive correlation with flower density (r = 0.67), temperature (r = 0.43) and weak positive relation with humidity (r = 0.26), and negative with rainfall (r =-0.84). The duration of its development from egg to adult was 22 days at 25 ± 2°C; 65 ± 5% RH. Life table statistics showed the net reproductive rate (Ro) being 58.50 eggs, approximate generation time (Tc) is 28.30 days with intrinsic growth rate, rm= 0.1512 and finite rate of increase, λ =1.16 with population doubling time (DT) of 4.58 days.
