Abstract

Long pipper (Piper longum) is an important medicinal plant, is highly affected by the attack of different insect pests and diseases. Among these, root knot nematode (Meloidogyne incognita) is one of the important hidden pests that cause severe damage of the crop in terms of loss of vigour, reduction of spike yield and also affects medicinal properties of the crop. A management trial in pot as well as field with non-chemical methods, was conducted against root-knot nematode in long pipper, having seven treatments. All the bio-control agents significantly reduced population of M. incognita, root galling and enhanced plant growth parameters. FYM enriched Pseudomonas fluorescens @ 50 g/plant was adjudged to be the best of all treatment in terms of reduction of final nematode population. The same treatment was also found to be significantly effective in improving plant growth parameters such as plant height, number of branches, leaves, fresh and dry weight of shoot, and root in both pot and field trials, followed by the treatment with Purpureocillium lilacinum @ 20 g/plant.
