Efficacy of Trichoderma viride and T. harzianum culture filtrate on egg hatching and larval mortality of root-knot nematode, Meloidogyne incognita

Abstract

The results revealed that egg hatching and larval mortality of Meloidogyne incognita in culture filtrate of Trichoderma viride and Trichoderma harzianum increased with the increase in the concentration of culture filtrate and time duration. The egg hatching in Trichoderma viride culture filtrate was highest (100.00) in the 5.0% concentration followed by 89.00, 81.50, 72.50, 66.25, 56.75, 53.50, 42.25 and 34.00 at 36 hours and 169.50, 154.25, 142.00, 128.25, 121.25, 95.50, 75.25, 65.50, 42.25 at 72 hrs time duration time in 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 40, 50, 75, 100% filtrate concentration, respectively. The larval mortality was observed highest 72.25% in 100% concentration of the culture filtrate followed by 4.00, 17.00, 22.00, 42.25, 47.50, 54.50, 63.00, 67.50, and 72.25% at 36 hrs interval and 13.75, 26.00, 41.25, 56.75, 59.75, 66.50, 72.00, 77.75 and 81.00% mortality at 72 hrs in 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 40, 50, 75 and 100% concentration treatment. In Trichoderma harzianum culture filtrate was recorded highest (82.25) in the 5.0% concentration followed by 72.00, 67.50, 60.25, 54.50, 49.25, 40.75, 31.50 and 24.75 at 36 hrs and 148.00, 136.75, 126.50, 118.00, 99.25, 79.75, 65.50, 52.50, 31.25 at 72 hrs time duration time in 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 40, 50, 75, 100% filtrate concentration, respectively. The larval mortality was observed highest 86.00% in 100% concentration of the culture filtrate followed by 6.25, 16.75, 23.50, 29.50, 48.75, 58.25, 64.50, 74.00, and 86.00% at 36 hrs interval and 13.25, 32.00, 47.75, 53.50, 64.00, 69.50, 76.25, 84.75 and 93.50% mortality at 72 hrs in 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 40, 50, 75 and 100% concentration treatment. The % reduction in egg hatching when eggs were exposed to the culture filtrate of Trichoderma viride and Trichoderma harzianum in comparison to the control was recorded 26.72, 35.85, 39.86, 46.32, 51.44, 56.12, 63.69, 71.93 and 77.95 at 36 hrs and 12.81, 19.44, 25.47, 30.48, 41.53, 53.01, 61.41, 69.07 and 81.59 at 72 hrs exposer time in T. harzianum culture filtrate on the other hand in T. viride recorded 10.35, 24.73, 31.07, 38.68, 43.97, 52.00, 54.75, 35.72, 71.25 and 71.25 at 36 hrs and 3.00, 11.73, 18.74, 26.60, 30.61, 45.35, 56.93, 62.51 and 75.82% at 72 hrs exposer period.
